U.S.S. MIDWAY:
Las Vegas Mannequins recently had the opportunity to visit the USS Midway Naval Aircraft Carrier docked in San Diego Navy Pier. To our surprise the USS Midway still had a working crew on board as you can see. Even for being mannequins, these crewmen were able to give the feel of a working ship as it was when it was in commission.
Carrier number 41 was the 3rd ship to be called Midway and was laid down October 27th 1943. She launched on March 20th 1945 and was commissioned September 10th 1945. Midway is the longest-serving aircraft carrier in U.S. Navy history with a record of 47 years of service that spanned from the end of WWII to the liberation of Kuwait in the first Gulf War in 1991. The Midway is a perfect example of courage, freedom and service to our country. Volunteers and veterans, who understand how important Midway is to American history, have used their skills to restore this amazing ship to its outstanding condition. From the boiler room to the bridge, tourists are able to experience life on a carrier and the conditions Navy seamen had to deal with day to day.
Las Vegas Mannequins highly recommends touring this great carrier and supporting the men and women in our Navy and other armed forces who have given the greatest sacrifices for our freedom. The USS Midway Museum is an unforgettable adventure for the entire family. Go to sea without leaving port! Explore more than 60 exhibits with a collection of 25 restored aircraft.
